Project Context

The game presented on this web page was created as part of my studies at ENJMIN in collaboration with a group of 7 other students. The video game was created as part of a game development exercise centered around the theme of racing games, within a limited timeframe of five days.

Better Late Than Basic (BLTB) is a racing game mixing the need for speed with the need for style. Race through the mountain and the city, collect tuning elements for your car, and be the fastest and the most stylish player of them all!

Technical Aspects Developed

Since the team had chosen a retro car game style, my colleague, the second programmer on the project, worked on the car controller while I took care of the car tracking camera. As we were using Unity, I integrated the Cinemachine plugin into the controller created by my colleague, and we adjusted the settings to reduce motion sickness potential for players. Following that, I focused on developing the core gameplay features for our game while my colleague was working on fixing the car controller.
Here is a list of a few features I made :

  • Countdown timer;
  • Timer before the end of the race;
  • Collectibles account for each player;
  • HUD;
  • endless score screen;
  • ets.
